1st National Seminar 2022

2nd National Seminar

Role of Artificial Intelligence and Automation in Modern Age Agriculture

21st November 2023

                                                                      About the Seminar

As the population is increasing day by day and our food requirement is also increasing, so to fulfill the food requirements with existing resources we have to think about other alternatives to increase the production of crops. This problem requires a smart solution and the role of artificial intelligence will be critical to solving this problem. The role of artificial intelligence in agriculture steps up in other supplemental areas of agriculture also to lift the entire agriculture industry. The major focus of the seminar is to share the contribution of Artificial Intelligence and Automation in the Agriculture Sector so that researchers/people from Academia and industry/students can get the benefit of knowledge shared by resource persons and they can try to implement at ground level to help the end-users (farmers) afterward.

                         About the Department

The Computer Science & Engineering Department has been established in the year 2003 evolved towards enhancing computing and its applications to build the intellectual capital of the society. The department prepares over 230 graduates (UG & PG) every year to become leaders in diverse fields such as academia, industry, and government. The department also offers a research program (Ph.D.) in various disciplines of computer science and engineering and has earned a reputation in North/across India. Providing the content and the context, the department opens a wide window for the students to seize the fleeting opportunities and career vistas in the industry. In addition to classroom teaching, the students are exposed to technical seminars and workshops, invited talks, and soft skills development programs that were mutually organized by the department and reputed industrialists.

                    About Punjabi University

Punjabi University, Patiala established under the Punjab Act No. 35 of 1961. Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, the then President of India laid foundation of Punjabi University on June 24, 1962. This is the second University in the world to be named after a language, the first being Hebrew University of Israel. Now the university caters to the educational needs of nine Districts of Punjab. Over the time since its inception, the University has evolved into a multi-faceted and multi-faculty educational institution for the promotion of higher education and research in Humanities, Arts, Sciences, Engineering Languages, Technology and many more. Spread over 600 acres of land, its 1500+ teachers are imparting instruction and guidance to nearly 14,000+ students in a multi-faceted, multi-pronged and multi-faculty environment comprising 70+ Teaching and Research Departments/Chairs on its Campus, 27 Regional Centre/ Neighbourhood Campuses/Constituent Colleges and 274 Colleges affiliated to it

Role of Artificial Intelligence and Automation in modern age agriculture

1. This seminar imparts knowledge about the implementation of the Artificial Intelligence concept in an agriculture system that is useful to increase the yield of the crops and reduce atmosphere unfriendly effects globally.

  1. 2. These days, AI-enabled approaches are used to increase the efficiency of agricultural production. This seminar will elaborate on the concepts of AI and will help the researchers and students to implement these concepts into practical mode and which in turn will support Irrigation, fertigation automation and the growth of plants can be monitored automatically. In this way, more AI-enabled devices will be in-market at less cost and it will help the end customers (farmers) to get the AI-enabled devices locally.
  2. 3. Artificial intelligence techniques are used for analyzing the effects of temperature, rain, and solar radiation on the production of different crops. From that study, a farmer can get information in advance to cultivate a particular crop in a specific type of soil for a particular season using AI-enabled devices and data. This will help to implement the concept of crop diversification (will break the crop cycle of wheat and paddy, particularly in Punjab and Haryana states), and that will help to save groundwater by growing crop that consumes less amount of water and will improve the fertility of the soil. This type of knowledge will be shared by resource persons that will help the students and researchers to help the end-users (farmers) to get more yield with existing resources.
  3.

This seminar will help to achieve these objectives so that end-users (farmers) can implement these AI-enabled devices on the ground level by getting knowledge from local researchers.

                                                       Objective of the Programme
